However, there were few reports evaluating their effectiveness in attracting the flies in the field. By using different fruits as bait held in sticky-bag shows that all the ripe fruits tested, including banana, peach, melon, mango, longan, guava, sapodilla, and grape were able to attract the feeding or ovipositing female flies effectively. At the field test, it was shown that the attracted number of females are 2.6-fold of male by using guava-sticky-bag (GSB) and the number of females are one-fourth compared to the male numbers which attracted by the methyl eugenol (ME). In the area treated with ME and chemical application last for 10 months, the average percentage of damaged fruit at the investigation is 35.1%. The coefficient of determination (R2) between the attracted fly number and the percentage of damaged fruit is only 0.12-0.17. The attracted female and male numbers by using toxic protein hydrolysate in the improved McPhail trap are 18.1 and 19.5%, respectively, comparing to the number which using GSB. Comparison of different attracting materials also shows that the non-toxic ME fiber block in victor fly trap has the best male attractive effectiveness and GSB has the best effectiveness for trapping female. Results from hanging GSB and victor fly trap in the meantime at guava orchard, show the obvious decrease, 76% of the population density, and the percentage of damaged fruit does significantly decrease 36.4% than fruit in the plot of only hanging victor fly trap. Results also from mango orchards, show that the percentage of damaged fruit are significantly decreased. Results of evaluation from all above testing, by using different attractive materials, show that the non-toxic GSB and victor fly trap should be a very good monitor or control technique for managing the Oriental fruit fly.
