Individuals could also gain benefit by cooperative vigilance while in group. In order to study the factors which affected vigilance behavior of ring-necked pheasant (Phasianus colchicus formosanus ), we recorded their group size, group composition, corresponding environmental factors, auditional signals and human activities using 5-min focal sampling method in National Dong Hwa University from July 2002 to March 2003. The study indicated that biological factors such as group size and group composition rather than environmental factors caused significant influences to the level of vigilance behavior of ring-necked pheasant.
