First, a new design method of mechanism design is introduced. To put the creation of mechanism design on the basis of the abundant information and techniques retrieved from existing patents can let designers have definite principle to follow, and this will have products oriented by the market and technology and easier to be revised. Second, an entirely analysis of spatial latch mechanisms with decoupled two-stage motion used in wafer carriers is be illustrated in this thesis and be enumerated the new designs of this type of latch mechanisms. First, the latch mechanism in wafer carrier will be discussed in detail and also the definition of essential functions of latch mechanism will be introduced. Second, by searching the patents related to latch mechanism and analyzing the topological structures and functions within them, two feasible mechanisms could be chosen with the essential functions from the patents, those are spatial latch mechanisms with decoupled two-stage. Third, further analysis of the feasible mechanisms will conclude the functional topological characteristics. Fourth, the feasible graphs will be selected by these characteristics, and to be labeled the joint type in two instances.
