Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 資訊管理系 === 91 === In order to provide more efficient transmission in video-on-demand systems, several periodic broadcasting schemes, which partition a video into several segments and broadcast each segment on a dedicated channel repeatedly, have been proposed. Since the popularity of videos changes by time, in order to reduce the overall client waiting time, it is reasonable that the number of channels assigned to a video is changed according to its popularity. However, when the number of channels assigned to a video is varied, the new-coming user who wants to view this video has to wait long time, about the half of a video length in average, because the channel transition can only occur until the users who are currently watching this video finish their viewing. We propose a novel broadcasting scheme, which can dynamically vary the number of channels assigned to any in-the-fly video without any disruption in viewing it. Therefore, not only the waiting tine on new-coming user is reduced during channel transition, but the video server also can produce a better bandwidth utilization. Compared with seamless Fast Broadcasting scheme, which is a representative that can seamlessly change the number of channels without any disruption, our scheme can partition a video into more segments and thus produce
