A study of the training process of the Chinese Taipei elite soft-tennis players Unpublished Master Thesis, Chinese Culture University, Taipei ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to investigate the training process and background of six elite soft tennis players’ mental preparation before the competitions、players’ concept of values, the relationship between coaches and players、and search the solutions to the problems facing the training process. This study was conducted through qualitative research method based on the in-depth interviews with six selected elite soft tennis players. The findings are as follows: (1) Background and training process: The major factor to join the sport was the players’ own interest and coaches’ encouragements. There were three players who set their goals in the beginning. The others who were influenced by their coaches. There were two players put most effort in their high schools and three were in their universities and one during all stages. (2) The players’ concept of values: Firstly for the honor of the nation, then for the prize money and thirdly to excel themselves. (3) Psychological preparation before competitions: most players had some limited psychological preparations prior to competitions which helped them to hold positive view and brought them confidence, stability and self encouragement. (4) Interaction between the players and coaches: The coaches influenced players through the way to deal with people and they offered professional knowledge. Four players preferred combined leadership style and two players liked democratic leadership style. (5) The problems and resolutions: When faced the difficult problems, the players looked for outside help、self-support、coaches’ encouragement. Players used their communication skills to search the solutions and to overcome the problems. Keywords: soft tennis、elite players、training process
