This research is purported to find out the relationship between vocational awareness and Career Decision-Making-making of Hospitality Management Department students of Junior College. Students of Hospitality Management of four Junior Colleges in 4 administrative districts are selected to be the object of the research. The colleges are Kaohsiung Catering and Tourism College, Jin Wen Technology College, Der Yu Technology College and Ta Jen Technology College. The research is conducted with questionnaire investigation and adopted tools like Vocational Awareness Frequency Table, Career Decision-Making Frequency Table and Personal Basic Date Investigation Table to undergo empirical data collection. The total effective samples recovered are 330. Data process is done with SPSS statistic package software system. The statistical methods employed include descriptive statistics, T-test, Single Factor Variable Analysis, Pearson Production Differential Correlation. The results are described as the following:
1. Reality of Vocational Awareness of Students of Hospitality Management Dept. of Junior College:
Presently the Students of Hospitality Management Dept. of Junior College have mid-level understanding in the overall vocational awareness, and in the aspects like work values is little better than vocational skills and knowledge.
2. Reality of Career Decision-Making of Students of Hospitality Management Dept. of Junior College：
IN the overall Career Decision-Making inclination, the Students of Hospitality Management Dept. of Junior College are not taking it seriously, and in different levels, the inclination, in sequence of high to low, are Individual Conflict, Lack of Self-Understanding, Hesitation in Making Choice and the lowest is Lack of Confidence.
3. Study on the difference in Vocational Awareness of Students of Hospitality Management Dept. of Junior College with variables in individual attributes and psychological expectations.
1) Except significant difference in working experience, there is no significant difference among Students of Hospitality Management Dept. of Junior College of different individual attributes, gender, grade, age, academic performance, family social and economic status, family income.
2) In the vocational awareness of Students of Hospitality Management Dept. of Junior College with different psychological expectations, there is no significant difference among them in Self Educational Expectation, Parents Educational Expectation, Teachers’ Educational Expectation, Influence of Economic Environment, Future Plan after Graduation, but except Self Vocational Expectation, Parents’ Vocational Expectation, Teachers’ Vocational Expectation, Departmental Interest and Valuation of the School.
4. Study on the difference in Career Decision-Making for Students of Hospitality Management Dept. of Junior College with different individual attributes and psychological expectation.
1) Except significant difference in academic performance, working experience, in variable of different individual attributes, Students of Hospitality Management Dept. of Junior College showed no significant difference in gender, grade, age, family social and economic status, family income.
2) In variable of different psychological expectation, Students of Hospitality Management Dept. of Junior College in Career Decision-Making has significant difference in vocational expectation and departmental interest, are not having significant difference in Self Educational Expectation, Parents Educational Expectation, Teachers’ Educational Expectation, Parents’ Vocational Expectation, Teachers’ Vocational Expectation, Valuation of the School, Influence of Economic Environment and Future Plan after Graduation.
5. Study on the correlation between Vocational Awareness and Career Decision-Making of Students of Hospitality Management Dept. of Junior College
There exists reverse correlation between Vocational Awareness and Career Decision-Making of Students of Hospitality Management Dept. of Junior College.
Finally, the researcher provides the following suggestion, basis the result and conclusion of the Research:
1. Suggestion for the students: It is advisable for students to actively and aggressively request fro information about further study or employment from the Guidance Office of the School and Employment Assisting Units, and in the meantime, expanding personal professional knowledge and skills to further fortify self-confidence.
2. Suggestion for the School: It is suggest that the students’ vocational awareness shall be strengthened through sandwiched instructions consisted of teachers, school and enterprises. The teachers and guidance personnel of the school shall offer intensive guidance, or career planning courses for students to take and to assist the students in making rational decision in further study or in employment.
3. Suggestion for Hospitality Vocational Education policy; Offering smooth
channel for the Junior College students in employment and in further study.
4. Suggestion for future research
1) In the object of research
It should be with complete inference if the samples from night school are picked for comparison.
2) In Research Tools
Due to the departmental features and professionalism, it is suggested that a better research tool be developed, bases on the experience gained in this research.
3) In the future research, the time characteristics of the objects invested should
be taken into consideration. For example, the existence of Junior college,
how to maintain a education capacity for 20years college, the difficulties
faced by Junior college Hospitality Management students in
vocation and career selection are worth for further study.
