Most notably, the decrease in manufacturing accompanies the increase in the service industry. Taiwan is a good example of a country in this transitional state. Service industries such as hotel tourism, banking, and transportation, will likely continue to thrive for at least another ten years. This growth will bring in more investors, making competition in this industry even fiercer. An effective management style is key to beating the competition. Different management styles and attributes must be identified as beneficial or detrimental to the company operational performance. Thus, the resulting question: what is the relationship between management performance and the style of a company''s leader? The intent of this thesis is to answer the fore stated question by analyzing international tourist hotels in Taiwan on their perspective management approaches. What types of relationships exist between these different management approaches and their associated performance? How does each management approach lead to better or worse operational performance? This research is based on 55 international tourist hotels, which are certified by Tourism Bureau ministry of Transportation and Communications. The corporate management leaders of these 55 hotels were surveyed. The following characteristics were found. (1) Gender made a difference in the creative style of management. (2) Age did not make a difference in the style of management. (3) Educational background did not make a difference in the style of management. (4) Marital happiness made a difference in the conservative style of management. (5) Leaders who have held a position for a longer period of time tend to be more conservative. (6) Work experience did make a difference in the style of leadership. (7) A creative management style will have higher revenue. (8) In a company''s management style, international chain tourist hotels are better at motivating employees towards higher productivity when compared to independent tourist hotels. (9) Proper placement of personnel will have higher revenue. (10) A conservative management style will reduce the room occupancy. (11) Profitability before tax and management style are not closely related. According to this research, an investment in improving the company management culture creates a team spirit that motivates both managers and employees while building a relationship of trust. Equally important, an investment should be made to increase professional knowledge of both managers and employees. This involves hands-on training programs for the employees, especially with involvement from academic organizations and specialists. Also, managers should be required to make presentations and attend seminars to further improve their professional and managerial skills. Ultimately, this style of leadership will result in the improved performance of the company. Yun-Hua Su 蘇雲華 2002 學位論文 ; thesis 92 zh-TW
