Description
Summary:碩士 === 靜宜大學 === 會計學系研究所 === 91 === From 1992, 16 local banks opening have permitted by Taiwan’s government. Until September 2001, the Act of Financial Holdings Company was starting to enforce, during about this decade, not only the trend of global community, but also the changing of financial cycle and governments’ policies, which had huge impact to the operation and development of the line of banking. This paper uses the Translog cost function model ,utilizing the SUR to estimate the Economies of Scale and the economies of scope of commercial banks in Taiwan. The Research sample contains 35 commercial banks in Taiwan.Sample period is from 1995 to 2001. The purpose of the study is to analyze and examine the banks’ situation on the economics of scale or the economics of scope. The empirical mode contains the Translog cost function which includes three input prices and five output variables ,the cost-share equations, and the constraints on the parameters in the simultaneous cost system.Seemingly Unrelated Regression(SUR)is used to estimate the parameters of the simultaneous cost system. The result shows that: 1.As regards to the Economies of Scale:There is no Econoies of Scale of entire banks and new banks. But old banks are on the Economies of Scale still. 2.As regards to the Augmented Scale of Economies:Old banks has profits at Augmented Economics of scale compared to new banks. Even established new branch of banks, the throughput of these banks affected the economics of scale vary. 3.As regards to the Economies of Scope:only few businesses prop the phenomenon of the throughput costing complementary.
