The motivation of this thesis is to construct and analyze the literary relics of Taoyuan County developed from the late Ching.
The peculiar geography and history form the special literary feature of Taoyuan area. The thesis includes several categories among these abundant cultural legacy, they are literary publications, folktale, classical poems, newly developing literature and children’s literature.
Under the help of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taoyuan County, the literary publications and associations are developing fast.
Regarding to folktale, it is an important part to figure the peculiar culture of Taoyuan area, and a lot of legends or ballad reflect people’s life, emotion and the relations with nature.
The classical poems of Taoyuan area are not prominent compared with those of Taipei and Hsinchu. At the beginning of the period of occupied by Japan, the classical poems had been thrived, and then declined gradually.
The newly developing literature starts from the period of occupied by Japan, and after that occupied period, many writers engage in creating literary works and gave an excellent performance. Taoyuan also is a pioneer of children’s literature.
