Description
Summary:碩士 === 世新大學 === 經濟學系 === 91 === The purpose of this study is to evaluate productivity changes of medical centers and regional hospitals in Taiwan during 1994 to 1998 period using Malmquist productivity index and bootstrap approaches. Empirical results indicate that bootstrap confidence intervals for statistical inferences of the average productivity indexes and their components are necessary for objective hospital productivity evaluations. Furthermore, this study also assesses possible factors explaining hospital productivity using regression approaches. Dependent variables comprise productivity change index. Regression models include one set of pooled regression models and two set of panel data regression model. Explanatory variables consist national health insurance dummy, rate of bed occupancy, average length of stay, market concentration ratio, degree of illness, and total number of beds. In general, the explanatory variables included in both the pooled and panel data regressions significantly explain hospital productivity changes and their components, and had concluded that the random effect model was the best one.
