Summary:碩士 === 慈濟大學 === 教育研究所 === 91 === “Postcolonialism,” which originated from the Western World during the middle of 1970s’, is a contemporary and important philosophical paradigm. Cultural theories and literary critical thoughts form the basis of postcolonialism. In addition, the postcolonial time is not only the reorganization of government, but also the reconstruction of changing symbolization domain meanings. More importantly, its observation point is from “they” to “we.” This study is based on the perspectives of E.W. Said that expressed the basic stage of confrontation between Eastern and Western, the deconstruction of powerful mythology, and the new relationship between the East and the West. According to the book “Orientalism,” the points of view of postcolonialism tend to explain the meaning of authority. In addition to introduce E.W. Said’s theory of postcolonialism, the study examine current educational activities in Taiwan using the concept of subjective consciousness. The purposes of the study are as follows. 1.To discuss the historical context of E.W. Said’s postcolonialism. 2.To analyze the main theory of Orientalism. 3.To examine the authority concept of teacher-student relations in Taiwan. 4.To reflect the teacher-student relation in Taiwan from the perspectives of E.W. Said’s postcolonialism. The study findings are as follows. 1.Teachers should have the ability of critical thinking. 2.The teacher-student relations is a form of intersubjectivity. 3.Instruction in class has to be based on multicultural viewpoints.
