Process service provider of machine tool component is positioned at the basic level of supplier network. Which has faced the predicament in the recent years, the low growth of Taiwan Machine Tool Industry as well as their start to establish manufacturing subsidiaries in Mainland China. Nevertheless, we find Process service providers keep utilizing their original operating business technique, considering expanding themselves through new industry and transferring business to overseas market development in order to continue their own growth. This investigation attempts to clarify the operating characteristics and further to research the developing type of the Process service provider of Taiwan Machine Tool Industry. First, by many scholars’ arguments and study, this investigation bases on the operating characteristics each of Taiwan small-medium scale enterprises and supplier network to generalize the observation index for the process service provider. Next, this investigation will study individual case, by choosing eight firms in Taiwan Machine Tool Field and thirty process service providers and visiting them for further deep verifying. In this study, we find the operating characteristics of Process service provider, after the upgrade transform of Taiwan Machine Tool and the environment development change of this field, who has been gradually away from the traditional family works in the early stage and the image of the lack of management control, instead they become the very specialized, pragmatic, and flexible providers of process service. And this investigation is based on the observation of the verifying enterprises to attribute to 4 developing types — industries penetrate, businesses extend, business whither, and overseas divert. These 4 types are formed as the very practical developing types after the process service provider faced the fierce change of industry structure and market environment and mutually interacted according to heir own basic condition. Our research was provided as supplement to the prevalent domain in studying the developed type to the process service business, but also help to provide a reference worth for the development of Taiwanese machine tool industry.
