Description
Summary:碩士 === 東海大學 === 建築學系 === 91 === In the process of modernization of architecture and Urban in Taiwan the discourse about Taiwan’s architecture and urban usually followed the step of architectural discourse in west after the Japanese colony period. And by the discourse it build the architectures and urban belong to Taiwan. It is so-called “modernity of dependency” . We could observe a desire to build the orientation that the modern architecture should follow in Taiwan. There was some kind of struggle for making a decision between traditions and modernization, when building the orientation of modernization. It made several kinds of style of architectural modernization in Taiwan. They expressed the thinking ways of architects and clients about the orientation of architectural modernization and identity. The writing will discuss the identity in the period of globalization with the concept of identity in postcolonial discourses, the strategies of anti-modernization and the process of development of the Hsin Chu Science Park. After the colony period the people in colony often constructed their identity in two ways. One is erasing memories of colony and connecting to the time before colony. The other is to find the experiences belong to all people for the basement of culture identity. There are no differences between them. Just one thing is the same they are all essential discourses as the discourses of nationalism. We can find the essential discourses in the process of development of Hsin Chu Science Park. In early days of development of Hsin Chu Science Park, the site planning, public buildings, industrial buildings and the dormitories are all following the newest thinking ways of architectural design and urban planning in west. It expressed that Taiwan wanted to be the modernized country by copying the material civilization in west. After that, by the influence of nativism, the building style of the Hsin Chu Science Park turn into using the traditional architecture’s elements and type. The culture identity was also turned from western modernization to Chinese traditional culture. To resist the command of essential identity postcolonial theories bring up the concept of hybridity and multi-culture. Further regionalism also brings up the concept of mix to resist the attack of universalize of modernization and to continue the local traditions. On the other hand we can find some languages of modern architecture become the symbols of high-tech. And the symbols turn into being the locality at the Hsin Chu Science Park. We can also find that the clients and architects use some special symbols coming from the culture identity of client or the spirit of company to distinguish the company from others. By the way use it to mold the identity of members. It could not be the way of making decision by authority, when culture identity of society is forming in the period of globalization. Opposite, it is formed by the communications between individual and groups. And then it is not a fix point. It will flow between the complex relationship from time to time or fix at some point temporarily.
