Summary:碩士 === 東海大學 === 教育研究所 === 91 === 英文摘要 The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship among the current English teaching situation in elementary schools, work values and the professional commitment of English teachers in the Taichung and Chandhua regions. This study adopted questionnaire survey. The data collection was based on the three questionnaires. “Questionnaire of the current English teaching situation in elementary schools” was self-developed. Both“questionnaire of work values” and “questionnaire of the professional commitment”were designed by other scholars. The research subjects consisted of English teachers in elementary schools in the Taichung and Chandhua regions. This study reclaimed 500 English teacher questionnaires and there were 411 effective ones. The findings of this study were as follows: 1. The current status of English teaching should be put more efforts on ” school support” as well as “policy and training”. 2. The work values of the English teachers in elementary schools in the Taichung and Chandhua regions tend towards “intrinsic value”. 3. The elementary English teachers in the Taichung and Chandhua regions have higher sense of the professional commitment, and they can put more efforts on “intent to stay”. 4.There is a positive relationship between the English teacher’s work values and the professional commitment. 5.There is a positive relationship between the current English teaching situation in elementary schools and the professional commitment. 6. The voluntary English teachers are higher than the involuntary ones about work values, the current English teaching situation and the professional commitment. 7. The English teachers of different school sizes have the significant effects on “professional knowledge and ability” and “professional autonomy”. 8. “Professional knowledge and ability” is the best predictor to teachers’ professional commitment within levels of the current English teaching situation and work values. Based on the results of the study, suggestions for the reference of educational administrative organizations, elementary schools, and English teachers are proposed.
