The research focuses on the following:1. To analyze declassified Russian and Chinese archives along with Soviet influence on Chen Duxiu’s acceptance of the First United Front.2. To examine the relationship among Soviet Russia, Comintern and Chen Duxiu as well astheir debate over the anti-imperialist United Front.3. Comintern’s directing policies on Chen Duxiu There are five chapters in this thesis. The first chapter illustrates motivation, main purpose, method, literature review, scope, limitations and framework of this study. The second chapter discuses the Soviet anti-imperialist United Front Policy and the reason why Comintern actively promoted its policy. The third chapter analyzes the method how Soviet Russia and Comintern prodded Chen Duxiu to formally ally with Guomindang (GMD).
