Burnout has been shown to be a potential problem for IS professionals by the factors such as personal characters and environmental changes. Recently the global environmental events change rapidly both on information technology and economic regression. These changes may impact the IS professionals and increase levels of their burnout. In this thesis, we first constructed a research framework and designed a questionnaire based on this framework. Then, we mailed this questionnaire to the members of Information Manager Association and returned 133 usable questionnaires by snowball sampling. After analyzing these data, we found that employees in information and electronics industry had higher degree of burnout than the counterparts in other industries. We got low level burnout measure on personnel from IT department when comparing them with employees from non-IT department. Personnel having little knowledge of technology got high level of burnout. There were many organizational environment factors affecting the degree of burnout, including years of work, property of company, job types, work contents etc. Employees who playing role well and getting good job satisfaction had low level of burnout. Besides, political and financial environmental events also affected the degree of burnout. We also found that high degree of burnout made IS professionals to have turnover intension and physical syndrome.
