The questionnaire which contains ‘earth structure’, ‘what is earthquake’, and ‘earthquake evacuation’ developed by researcher was applied in this study. The subjects of this study were the determined teacher college students and Post-Bachelor degree students in elementary school teacher education. Data analysis came after questionnaire had been applied. T-test was used to examine the cognitive difference of earthquake related concepts of pre-service teachers between different teacher sources, different branches of learning, different genders. One-way ANOVA was used to check the difference within different learning backgrounds. And the results are as follows: 1. The difficulty of ‘earth structure’ was 74.1%,the difficulty of ‘what is earthquake’ was 73.2%,the difficulty of ‘earthquake evacuation’ was 83.7%,and the difficulty of whole questionnaire was 76.0%. 2. Teacher college students performed better than Post-Bachelor Degree Students in Elementary School Teacher Education, and were significant. 3. Math/science department pre-service teachers got better cognition than nonmath-science department pre-service teacher, but were not significant. 4. Male pre-service teachers performed better than female ones, and were significant. 5. Different learning background caused different cognition of earthquake related concepts and it is significant.
