碩士 === 臺北市立師範學院 === 視覺藝術研究所 === 91 === ABSTRACT Key words: pig, hog, swine, animal painting, Chinese animal painting The main purpose of my swine/pig series is to delve my inner feelings by creating wash drawings. To me, swine are praiseworthy. I used “water”, “ink” and “pigment” to compliment on this special animal; and through the process, I tried to reach the eternal goals of “originality”, “flexibility” and “fluency” as well. The beginning of my thesis is a thorough research of swine. I started with the inception of swine and accounted the details of their lifestyle. In prehistory, swine were once wild and free; their contours and colors were gradually altered after they have become livestock of humans. Meanwhile, I also analyzed and criticized how artists had been creating art works which were inspired by this unique creature. The search I did enriched my ideas about the species, and thus formed my artistic style. With three years of experiment, I finally discovered an excellent way to convey the perfect harmony of swine and art. In most of my paintings, the animals were surrounded by immense spaces which were constituted by varied wash drawings. With the contrast of the space and the animal, it might change our former concept of this herd. The merits of my study are: a.) to probe into the investigation of swine with an artistic edge; b.) precisely analyzed the situation of swine in art history; and c.) create a brand new series of swine painting.
