A court interpreter is regarded as professional staff required high language proficiency and moral standard in court in the United States. However, the certification program in Taiwan cannot test the basic ability of a court interpreter. The training program of court interpreters in Taiwan does not offer courses regarding court interpreting to meet the high demand of this profession. As a result, a court interpreter’s ability can’t be ensured according to the current system. This research concludes several important elements in court interpreting that should be covered in the training program. The present study offers several suggestions to the current training system of court interpreters in Taiwan: 1) Language Proficiency and Skills, 2) Interpreting Skills Development, 3) Legal Knowledge, 4) Professional Responsibility and Ethics, 5) Internship and Continuing Education and 6) Faculty of Training Program. A court interpreter’s ability should be enforced among language proficiency, legal background and also professional responsibility. Thus, a thorough training program is a basic proof of a court interpreter’s ability. Cheng, Chia-chieh 鄭家捷 2003 學位論文 ; thesis 102 en_US |
