Iron Bowl? Broken Bowl? The Forming of Job Insecurity under Globalizing Tendency In Taiwan: Taking the Financial Industry as an Example Yi-Wei Wu The present study arises from the concept of job insecurity in a risk society, choosing financial industry jobholders as the object of research. The methodology used is documentary analysis and in-depth interviews. In an attempt to explain why a job (position) at a bank is no longer the “golden bowl” but an “iron bowl”, and how this iron bowl turned into a “broken bowl.” In a nutshell, this “evolution of the bowls” is a relative concept, when we say golden bowl we refer to “banking industry standing out of other job alternatives;” by iron bowl we mean “state owned financial institutions VS private banking enterprises;” and broken bowl points to “the job insecurity as opposed to the for stability, certainty and job security.” We concluded that in recent years there is a new phenomenon of job insecurity among financial employees of Taiwan. This job insecurity can be subdivided as explicit and implicit. My emphasis is that the implicit job insecurity is part of the capitalistic competition logic; and two kinds of pressure originate from salesmen-orientation and qualifications-orientation, respectively. And the last, I mentioned the four party accomplice structure, classifying financial jobholders into “voluntary submissive,” and “rational conflictive” ones, to explain that all workers, at some level, must play by the rules of the new liberal capitalistic competition/money logic, and at the same time, find a equilibrium to survive in this commensalisms among the capitalist, government and consumer. 周玟琪 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 140 zh-TW
