A promise display technology that has recently boomed is the light valve projection display. The projection display capable of displaying large, high bright, high contrast, vivid color image and portable are expected for various applications, including high-definition television, conference presentation, and home-cinema. In this thesis, I studied and designed an illumination system of three-panel LCoS projector. After determining the specification of components and selecting the color split and recombination cubic, I utilized the geometric optical formula to get the basic structure of the illumination system, and used optical design software, ZEMAX, to optimize it. Later on, the simulation of the system founded on the preceding design was done by optical simulation software, ASAP. According to the simulation result, it was observed, analyzed and discussed in my conclusions. The system simplifies the complicated architecture and reduces the volume of the three-panel projection system in the past.
