Description
Summary:碩士 === 中原大學 === 應用物理研究所 === 92 === An unique PVK, E7 liquid crystal, Methyl Red, and C60 mixing system is developed in the form of a film which is coated onto an ITO glass. Similar system such as PVK/5CB/C60, and E7/Methyl Red/C60 have been developed previously. In this chemical system, none of the reagents react, but rather PVK is suspended in the E7 liquid crystal. This system possesses several interesting photorefractive characteristics as determined by a series of two-wave mixing experiments. First, this system provides a large gain at a small incident light power(about 6 mW in total at a ratio of 5:1), and a relative high-speed response on the order of 2.8 ms without any external electric field applied. Because of these two interesting characteristics, this suspension may have great potential for the application in CD-ROM-like information storages systems after further improvement and optimization. When performing two-wave mixing experiments, it was unexpectedly discovered that this system does not require an external field for the wave mixing to take place, which the PVK/5CB/C60 system, which also contains PVK, does. The high-speed response is an improvement from that of the E7/Methyl Red/C60 system, whose response time is in the order of 70 ms. Both systems allow two-wave mixing experiments to be performed in the Naman-Rath regime without an external electric field. The system also shows other interesting characteristics such as photobleaching, which is apparent after the Methyl Red is added to the system.
