More specially, if intracellular protein content was used as cell growth index, the protein content was found to be less than the control group(free suspension culture). It implied that cell growth was inhibited after cell entrapment. Meanwhile, the titre was largely reduced as only 100 mg/l, one-sixth of that in the control group. The pH of cell-immobilized group maximized one day later as compared with that of the control group, probably because of the existence of barrier layer, which caused resistance to untrient transport of nutrients. 【Key words】: Calcium alginate , Fungal cell immobilization (entrapment method) Long-shan T.
