There were 616 participants involved with the research. Those subjects were randomly selected from 15 classes out of 13 schools in Taichung area. A questionnaire was administered to the students. The returning rate of valid questionnaires reached 97.7% with 602 valid questionnaires in return. Data collected from the questionnaire were analyzed by descriptive statistics, MANOVA, and Structural Equation Modeling. The findings of the research are listed as below: 1. In terms of self-identity, the vocational high schools students in Taichung area showed an intermediate level. Among the two subgroups of self-identity, the confirmation of self-identity appeared higher than the importance of self-identity. 2. In terms of leisure participation, the vocational high school students in Taichung area showed a low level of participation. Among all the activity types, entertainment activity was the most frequently participated. The order of top five favorable leisure activities were accessing Internet, watching TV/videos/movies, chatting, outdoor activities, and ball games. 3. In terms of self-esteem, the vocational high school students in Taichung area showed an intermediate level. Among the four subgroups of self-esteem, self-doubt (counterscore scale) and self affirmation were higher than self efficacy and self expectation. 4. In terms of work values, the vocational high school students in Taichung area showed an upper-intermediate level. Among its five subgroups, self expectation and serving the society were higher than work challenges and work wages. 5. The background of vocational high school students in Taichung area played an influential factor on self-identity, leisure participation, self-esteem, and work values. 6. To the vocational high school students in Taichung area, self-identity had positive effects on both self-esteem and work values. However, leisure participation only impacted positively on work values instead of self-esteem. Moreover, self-esteem did not reveal any significant influence on work values. According to the findings, this research hopes to offer some constructive suggestions to schools, educational authorities, and future studies. This study of self-identity, leisure participation, self-esteem, and work values can not only enhance the school and authorities to better understand vocational high school students, but also can facilitate the future curriculum plan and student counseling.
