Six hundred and ten questionnaires compiled by the researcher were distributed and 416 were collected, among which 380 were valid. Supplementary interviews were conducted in the study. The following conclusions were achieved after the statistical analysis. 1. In general, retired teachers are positive about active social participation. 2. Younger retired teachers are more willing to continue their study than the older ones. 3. Teachers in longer retirement are involved more in volunteer services, social and club activities. 4. Retired teachers who enjoy a happy married life show stronger motivation to study and to participate in social activities. 5. Retired teachers in a poor financial condition shows significantly greater desire to be back to work. 6. Retired elementary teachers are significantly more willing to participate in club and social activities than those of junior high schools. 7. Sports and traveling are two favorite recreational activities of retired teachers. 8. Retired teachers concern more about the community, school, and environmental conservation. 9. Retired teachers in employ are more confident of themselves, in closer connection to society, and more likely to have a successful career. 10. Speeches, lectures, and short-term study courses provide retired teachers with a chance to grow. 11. Retired teachers obtain a sense of satisfaction and also improve their interpersonal skills through club participation. 12. The social participation of the retired teachers is influenced by their health, age, finance, psychology, attitude toward retirement, social economic status, others'' expectation, expected cost-effectiveness, the time and location of the activities, etc. According to the study, it is suggested that educational administration and schools hold more seminars or workshops, set up human resource centers, improve service, help establish associations or unions to strengthen the contact and relationship between these retired teachers.
