碩士 === 大葉大學 === 事業經營研究所 === 92 === The plastic thermoforming industry has been developed for almost 30 years in Taiwan. The companies in this industry are in a small and medium business scale. Ordinarily, they have been facing insufficient capital, talent shortage, small domestic market and R&D capability problems. Recently, the internationalization torrent has rolled up the world, as the global village has created stronger and stronger competition. Many of these firms elected to migrate to low labor cost regions, such as China or South East Asia to source low-end technology and manufacturing or to pursue low level markets. Maybe it’s a short term strategy but in the long term view, approaching an International Strategy Alliance to convert to high end technology, innovate new products, share in R&D costs, reduce risk and penetrate into high level, high profit markets is a positive alternative and the key to strengthen a core competitiveness in a firm. This thesis uses a case study method, which takes an existing alliance of Sunwell Machines and TSL-USA to research the thermoforming industry International Strategy Alliance processing. The information is a triangulation use of environment evaluation and industry core competency analysis derived from in-depth interviews and secondary information research, as well as a comprehensive probing to compare with many basic theories. The research and conclusion discover that the Influence of Cross-cultural Difference is one of the most important barriers of ISA but it could be minimized by good communication, tolerance and learning between each partner, as the qualified membership, clear business goal, common values and flexibility are the key factors for success.
