Consequently, it will be very interesting whether one can construct a logic structure to describe or to simulate the process. If it demonstrates to be feasible, then one may use the established theory to predict the future of urban development. With a very simple logic structure, Cellular automata (CA) is capable of simulating complicated phenomena. Therefore, CA has been widely applied to simulate the complicated evolutionary process of urban land use changes in recent years. In this thesis, Taichung City is selected as the case study area. Beyond the usual grid system in CA simulation, city blocks are used as the base in case study. This research is establishing a urban space develop simulation approach, which can represent urban inner-space development change phenomenon through the simulation of the cells’ individual behavior. This model, for simulation the urban inner-space development change process in a case study city, of Taichung city in Taiwan as a case study, has established application software within GIS program-Mapbasic. Depending upon different parameter settings, four scenarios are simulated. All scenarios are set in according with Wolfram’s complex condition of ranking four. According to the simulation results, all scenarios demonstrate self-organizing characteristic. Furthermore, the scale of development project, its bulk rate control and agglomeration effect are important factors affecting the path of urban development.
