The effect of peritoneal aluminum overload on tissue polyamine and magnesium contents in the mice

Twenty-four male ICR mice were divided into three group, including control (C), low Al (LAl) and high Al (HAl). Animals were intraperitoneally injected of AlCl3 in the dosage of 0, 7, 35 mg Al/kg body wt/day respectively for a period of 14 days. Blood and tissues’s Al, Mg, PAs (putrescine, spermine and spermidine) and NOx contents were determined. Results indicated that serum, liver, testis and epididymis Al contents were increased with the amount of Al injected. Testicular and hepatic Al contents were markedly increased with increasing serum levels of Al (r = 0.875, r = 0.863, P < 0.0001). In addition, Al concentration was inversely related to the Mg concentration (r = -0.431, r = -0.585, r = -0.456, P < 0.05), and positively correlated with the levels of NOx (r = 0.423, r = 0.540, r = 0.486, respectively, P < 0.05) in serum, liver and testis. On the other hand, the testicular diamine oxidase (DAO) activities which shared features with the metabolism of PAs were positively related to the serum Al concentrations (r = 0.441, p < 0.05). Testicular putrescine concentration negatively correlated with the levels of Al (r = -0.60, P < 0.05). However, testicular total PAs contents were not significantly influenced by Al concentration. It was concluded that the increased production of NOx in Al overload mice may be mainly through the Al-induced reduction of tissue Mg contents. Guoo-shyng Wang Hsu 王果行 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 0 zh-TW
