Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 教育領導與發展研究所 === 92 === Abstract The purposes of this research were to investigate the role elementary schools’ principals should perform and to explore the role perception and the role expectation principals should be from teachers’ viewpoints. And this study also discussed the differences between the role perception and the role expectation. Finally, the study explained why the differences cause. At first, this research constructed details about the proper role principals should perform from the literature, and then the questionnaires done by 426 teachers of elementary schools in Taipei County were collected. At last, the analysis was built with SPSS of PC edition. The results of this research were concluded as below: 1. There were 7 different principals’ roles: roles for administrative management, roles of problem-solving, makers of public relations, leaders for curriculums and teaching, guides of education, leaders for culture and professional in education. 2. Teachers of elementary schools showed middle or high perception towards principals’ roles, but they showed high expectation towards principals’ roles. There were significant differences between perception and expectation. 3. Teachers had the highest perception towards principals’ roles for professionals in education and makers of public relations, meanwhile, the lowest perception for leaders of curriculum and teaching, and guides for education. 4. Teachers had the highest expectation towards principals’ roles for professionals in education, meanwhile, the lowest expectation for leaders of curriculum and teaching. 5. There were significant differences among teachers with various career experiences, ages, positions, and school types. Those who were elder, experienced, undertaking administration and serving in small-sized school had higher perception towards principals’ roles. 6. There were not significant differences about perception towards principals’ roles among teachers in both genders and educational backgrounds. 7. There were significant differences about expectation towards principals’ roles among teachers with various positions. Teachers undertaking administrative positions showed higher expectation towards principals’ roles. 8. There were not significant differences about expectation towards principals’ roles among teachers with various genders, ages, career experiences, educational backgrounds and school types. According to the research, it offered some suggestions to principals, teachers and governments. Also it expected to submit proper directions for further research.
