In this study, the works of a student affairs director were clarified first through job analysis, then, the job description and the job regulation chart were completed according to the above analysis as well as the interviewing of three excellent and experienced student affairs directors. With the job description, document analysis and the contents of the interviewing of the three directors, the professional competence of student affairs director was constructed. Finally, “the questionnaire of the professional competence of senior high school student affairs directors” was developed on the basis of the said professional competence and other documents, and was adapted as the instrument of this research. In this research a general survey was conducted to all student affairs directors in provincial senior high school. 192 copies in all were sent out and 150 copies had been handed back. The retrieval rate was 78% and the valid questionnaires were up to 149 copies. After coding the data accessed from the effectual questionnaire, percentage, average number, standard criterion and chi-square test were used to compare and analyze these data, and then form the conclusion and discovery of this research. The conclusions of this research are: 1) The major facets of the professional competence of a student affairs director are “communication and coordination”, “leadership”, “professional knowledge” and “crisis management”. 2) For current student affairs directors, “age” is the major factor which influences their professional competence of “communication”, the secondary factor is “gender”. 3) For current student affairs directors, “age” is the major factor that influences their professional competence of “leadership”; the secondary factor is the “service years”. 4) For current student affairs directors, “age” is the major factor that influences their professional competence of “professional knowledge”. 5) For current student affairs directors, “age” is the major relevant factor that influences the total score of their professional competence. 6) For current student affairs directors, the average rate of replacement of this position is far too high. 7) Teachers who are current student affairs directors are older and senior than other teacher.
