Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 教育領導與發展研究所 === 92 === AN ACTION RESEARCH OF THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF 「SERVICE-LEARNING」 INSTRUCTION HO, HSUAN-SHENG ABSTRACT This research is based on the integration of the theory of Service-Learning and the Civics course in the second year of Senior high schools. There were totally 140 eleven-grade student , 8 teachers, and 7 non-profit organizations out of school, working on the action research for a whole year. The whole study included this teaching of Civics in school and the practice of social service on holidays. In the teaching part, the theory and function of Service-Learning was attached to the first book of Civics, Society and Culture, and the second book, Morality and Law. In the student service practice, the students were divided into 9 groups to carry out their community services after school. The following are the chief goals of this research: (1) To construct the form of the course in high school Civics combined with the project of Service-Learning, and put the Service-Learning into practice. (2) To research if this can improve the participants’ responsibility and concern about the society after they take part in the Service-Learning activities. (3) To find out what the causes are which influence the students to carry out the Service-Learning. To aim at these goals, the research made use of teaching journals, feedbacks from the students, questionnaires both at the beginning and at the end of the yearly course, the following tracing after the questionnaires, records of the interviews, observing records, group analysis of both the first and the second semester, and the description and announcement of the specific events made in public. The results of the research indicate that the course in high school Civics being added with the project of Service-Learning is not only applicable but also meaningful. The introduction of Service-Learning does increase the students’ responsibility and concern about the society. The research also presents that the direct service of taking care of the elderly, the indirect service of holding the garden party, and the collecting of receipts are the most promises made by students.
