Initial training must cover all basic flight courses so that the trainees can obtain all those required experiences for further training. Safty and economy are two important factors for initial training to ensure the flight course could be upgraded to a higher level. Therefore, the efficiency of the initial propeller training aircraft is critical to trainees’ learning. The purpose of this study is to evaluate different basic training aircrafts and decide which one fits our requirements. Our goal is to evaluate the best tool for training a non-experience trainee to become a professional pilot. Therefore, the result of the evaluation will directly affect the performance of the Air Force. The purpose of this research is to make a optimal selection from the 7 trainer aircraft models, which are T-34, PC-7, PC-9, PC-7 MK2, T-6A, KT-1 and T-27. Evaluation factors are:fuel system, power plant, service ceiling, G limits, max. operating speed, economy cruising speed, max. operating speed with landing gears down, max. operating speed with flaps down, stalling speed when flameout, max. speed, max. climbing rate at sea level, takeoff distance(ft), landing distance(ft), distance required for takeoff and reach 50ft height(ft), distance required for from 50ft height to land and full stop(ft). By using the research method of the gray relational analysis, we can evaluate the choice of the initial training aircrafts. At the same time, with the TOPSIS(Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution, TOPSIS), opinions from the professionals and surveys done by T-34C flight drillmasters from Chinese Air Force Academy (CAFA), it is verified that our approach is feasible and appropriate.
