Description
Summary:碩士 === 高雄醫學大學 === 口腔衛生科學碩士在職專班 === 92 === Background : It is well known that the behavior of betel quid chewing, cigarette smoking and drinking are not good for the health . The purpose of this study was to investigate and explore the association between mental health and the use behavior of betel quid chewing, smoking and drinking. It would be a helpful reference to consult for the prevention of betel quid chewing, smoking and drinking. Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate and explore the association between mental health and the use behavior of betel quid chewing, smoking and drinking. Method : ++ The subjects was selected from registered permanent residents of the southern five counties of Taiwan(including Chiayi City,Tainan City,Tainan County,Kaohsiung County and Pingtung County) and aged over 18 years old. The method was to use stratified multi-stage cluster sampling with selection probability proportional to size ( pps design). There were 2,011 complete questionnaires. The statistical analysis was weighted based on actual demographic proportions of gender and age group combinations. Result : The results showed that (1) The total average CHQ of the mental health status was 1.88, and the score of female was higher than male. The score of males was 1.80, females was 1.97 respectively. The mental health status of female was the worse 1.65 than male was(OR. = 1.65,P-value = 0.0003). (2) The risk factors of the mental health status were: female greater than male, aged over 65 years old, separated or divorced, education level lower than junior high school. (3) The mean CHQ of betel quid chewing was 2.16, higher than the CHQ of none betel quid chewing which was 1.85. Smoking(2.34) was higher than the non smoking(2.02). Excessive drinking(2.84) was higher than non excessive drinking(2.07). The mental health status of betel quid chewing、smoking and drinking was the worst (3.42) to non uses (OR. = 3.42,P-value = 0.0011). So we could find that the higher score of CHQ-12, the more betel quid, cigarette and alcohol were been used , and the worst the mental health status was. (4) The mean score and level of CHQ-12 was in direct proportion to the amount of time, frequency, quantity and extent on betel quid chewing, cigarette smoking and alcohol. Conclusion : The findings of this study proved that the mental health status and the use behavior of betel quid chewing, smoking and drinking were significantly correlated and would have the worst status of the mental health. It was, therefore, suggested that the mental health problems were highly associated with habits of betel quid chewing, cigarette smoking and alcohol drinking.
