Manufacturers attempt to increase their ability of competition. They must provide varied products to satisfy with the demand of customers. When manufacturers fabricate products, product design for variety will be considered. During the several years, manufacturers detect that the cost can be decreased by a lot of production, but the customers are attracted hardly by the simplex form of product. The customers desire to conform to their requirements. Manufacturers begin to apply modular conception in product design. Through the function modules compose, it will satisfy with the different groups of customers and manufacturers will make a decision rapidly and correctly in product design. But when quantities of modules are increasing, it will be complex in product design. If modules can be chosen optimally and produced by the manufacturers, the cost will decrease and the competition ability of manufacturers will rise rapidly. This paper bases the module conception to construct a model and describes the genetic algorithm is applied to search the optimal combination of the modules. The manufacturers will fabricate products by the optimal modules.
