This new CNS/ATM is based on a set of new technologies aiming at providing a new supporting infrastructure for ATM, which is essentially based on Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN) notion. In anticipation of the ATN network and to support CNS/ATM in an efficient manner in the long run, the CAA has embarked on programs aimed at providing modern communications networks to support all CAA ATS services. In the domestic, the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) based on HiLink from ChunHwa Telecom is chosen as the backbone networking technology. The network is named ATS Service Network (ASN) and is a closed network for CAA users only. For the international network connection, the CAA has initiated the procurement of AMHS and the ATN routers to build the necessary communications infrastructure to support the future CNS/ATM system in the Taipei Flight Information Region (FIR). This research focuses on the analysis of the ATM network technology and the architecture of AMHS to give an overall view of the substantial benefits of the new generation ground communication implementation plan in Taipei FIR.
