The fundamental design and manufacture of propelled and powered wheelchairs are not fully adapted to wheelchair users in Taiwan. Moreover, the wheelchair industries in Taiwan are mainly focused on the assembling, OEM, and mass production for exports, lack of sufficient fund in researching, participation and evaluations of clinical therapists, ergonomic engineers and machinery designers. The purpose of this study is based on user’s requirements to develop a newly easy-portable powered wheelchair, which includes the advantages of propelled and powered wheelchair.   The main features of the new powered wheelchair are as following: 1.Less components that marks its mass lighter than traditional powered wheelchair very much. 2.The attachable driving system and creative design of foldable structure provides the wheelchair. 3.Introduce user’s requirements in new powered wheelchair development which are less respect in developing an assistive device in the past. 4.Using disassembly mechanisms, the concept of electric-drive module combing driving and turning system has advantages including small size, fewer components and easy portable. 5.After discussion and analyze, the drag phenomenon was solved by non-differential single drive wheel used in new powered wheelchair. Without drag phenomenon, the new powered wheelchair is more safety in travel. 6.In this study, we design the main components in new powered wheelchair which can lower the costs of production effectively.
