Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 政治經濟學研究所 === 92 === This study explores the relationship between women’s political participation and the legislation of women's right laws. The focus is placed on the behavior of male and female legislators in the legislative process of the “Gender Equality in Employment Law.” The study examines whether women’s political participation facilitates the legislation of women's right laws. First of all, the result shows that female rather than male legislators indeed advocate the advance of the “Gender Equality in Employment Law”. The female legislators who made presentations in the Legislative Yuan voted for the Law, while the male legislators vote against it. Some male legislators not only opposed the Law, but also made biased statements or irrelevant criticisms. Secondly, party affiliation rather than concern of gender inequality played an important role in the legislative process. The DPP’s legislators gave more support for the Law than the KMT’s. The draft resolution and interpellation proposed by KMT’s legislators are closely related to the KMT government’s standpoint. Thirdly, it seems that female legislators formed a stronger alliance throughout the legislative process of the Law. But the party affiliation still overrides gender identity. If the KMT government opposes the Law, KMT’s female legislators would remain silent. If the KMT government already agree with the Law, the KMT’s female legislators join the DPP’s and the New Party’s female legislators in supporting the Law.
