Data were obtained from face-to-face administered self-reported questionnaires completed by a clinical sample of 121 battered women in Nantou County.
Research results included three major findings. First, the battered women had more needs and assistances of protective services in external system and macro-system levels. Particularly, they needed more services of changing everyone’s attitude to domestic violence, police rescue, medical care and protective laws. They were also assisted in those services they needed. In terms of satisfaction, participants were satisfied with social worker’s attitude, values and escort services. Regarding all protective services, roughly 1/3 of participants answered “satisfied,” “somewhat satisfied,” and “not satisfied,” respectively. Second, women who needed more formal resources were more assisted by the protective services, including police rescue, medical care, protective laws, and social worker’s assistances. Besides, the more they were assisted, the more they were satisfied with the protective services. Third, women who experienced more severe violence showed more needs of protective services. In addition, women who had better informal social support were more assisted by the protective services, which manifest the importance of social support.
