D. Author: Ming-Tsung Wang Abstract The primary purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between junior high school principals’ job stress and coping strategies. The survey data were collected from 148 junior high school principals in one city and three counties in central Taiwan. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s product-moment correlation, and canonical correlation. The results of this study were summarized as follows: 1. The over-all job stress on the junior high school principals is medium in strength. 2. The major sources of the junior high school principals’ job stress are first “the professional promotion of the principals,” and then “the ecology of the school organizations,” “the system of the principal selection,” “the expectation and the interference of the students’ parents of the community.” 3. As a whole, the frequency of junior high school principals’ using coping strategies is medium in strength. The major coping strategies are first “rational analysis,” “problem solving,” “support soliciting,” “harmonization and adaptation,” and “procrastinate.” 4. When the principals face the job stress, they use more the positive coping strategies, and less negative coping strategies. 5. As to the junior high school principals’ coping strategies, a discrepancy doesn’t exist in the principals’ sex, age, education, employ, the scale of the school, and the location of the school. 6. There is a definite relationship between the junior high school principals’ job stress and the coping strategies. Keywords: junior high school principals; job stress; coping strategies Tsong-Wen chen 陳聰文 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 202
