Besides, this study also led to the growth and changes of the teacher-researcher and the students during the process of implementation. By setting up literacy routines and environment in the classroom, and by presenting to students rich reading materials and demonstrations, first graders are found to become more motivated to read and develop positive reading habits, which in turn result in better literacy performance. b) The most important thing to consider in planning a reading workshop is students’ abilities and interests. Especially, follow-up activities should be diversified. It is not necessary to design complex tasks. On the contrary, the contents of texts should match the interests of students. c) It is necessary to pay special attention to those disadvantaged readers during the process of implementing reading workshop, so as to avoid polarization in students’ reading levels. d) The action research project is conducive to developing the literacy teacher’s professional knowledge and skills, critical thinking, and flexibility in instruction and social interaction. Finally, based on the findings, the researcher provides suggestions for reading instruction, text selection, school administration, and future research.
