It’s estimated that the number of elderly population would be doubled in the next 20 years and the proportion would reach 16%. At the same time, the life expectancy for male and female in Taiwan increased to 73.03 and 78.82, respectively. That means there are more people will live longer enough to retire. The purpose of this study is to find out if the change of labor force participation is related to the health among the elderly in Taiwan. The study is a secondary data analysis. The data are drawn from the longitudinal survey conducted by the Bureau of Health Promotion of Department of Health. The selected panels for the current study are derived from the 1989 original respondents who had survived by the 1993 follow-up (N =3155). The study purpose is to find out the influence of labor force participation on health. Independent variables are as following: Characteristics of social demographics, Change of labor force participation, Change of activities participation and health in 1998. Dependent variable is the health in 1993: Activity of daily living, Mental health, Life satisfaction, Self-assessments Health and number of Chronic illness, and use logistic regression to analyze. The results are as following: (1) Male is healthier than female. (2) When getting old, the respondents’ health is also getting worse. (3) Education level is a protection factor. If the level is higher, the activity of daily living, life satisfaction and self-assessment health are better. (4) The ethnicity is significant factor to elderly male. The old male come from mainland is better than from Taiwan in activity of daily living, life satisfaction and self-assessment health. (5) The main career in life is a significant factor to elderly male. The employeed is better than the self-employee in activity of daily living, metal health and self-assessment health. (6) In the change of activity participation, the active elders are better than inactive elders in health. According to this result, the change of labor force participation is correlated with the health of elder. Besides, elderly cannot be categorized to one group. The health levels are not the same in characteristics across different social groups. When promoting the health for elderly populations, it is very important to categorize the characteristics of social demographics to get the result efficiently and effectively.
