Initially, eleven boy students (12±0.6 yrs) elementary school boys stepping 3 boxes test with 25, 30, 35 centimeter high, respectively; compare the correlation within finishing different high step-boxes frequency time and VO2max and we found that the frequency, and time in 35 cm. high had the highest correlation with VO2max( r=.86, r=.89; p<.05). Fifty boys (12.2 ±0.6 yrs), furthermore, performed 35cm high step test, 800m walk-run test, and treadmill to measure their VO2max. We found that the frequency and time of the exhaustive step test were significantly correlated with VO2max ( r=.79, r=.79, r=.78; p<.05 ). Finally, randomly select 19 of them (11.8 ±0.5 yrs) performed the 2nd step test and 800m walk-run test to validate the test-retest reliability ( r=.93, r=.94, r=.96; p<.05 ). The results suggest that to predict VO2max, gradually step test and 800m walk-run test are superior in both validity and reliability. To predict VO2max, the stepwise regression equation was: VO2max(ml/kg/min )=23.858+0.02526×step test time (s) +0.04199×step test frequency (beat/min) (R=.79, =.63, SE=5.16, F=40.14; p<.05) VO2max (ml/kg/min )=54.209 0.01645×step test time (s) -0.07181×800m walk-run (s) (R=.82, =.67, SE=4.86, F=48.39; p<.05) The gradually step test has the merits: can be used in a group, low place requirement, easy to get equipment, similar procedures with VO2max test in a lab, and external factors can be effectively controlled; then, subjects can do their best to complete their test. It is concluded that the gradually step test, therefore, is one of effective test tools to predict VO2max. 林瑞興 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 69 zh-TW
