With interview, observation and style analysis; this research contains the origin and course of Wang’s art career and the style development of his seal cutting. The effect upon seal cutting in Taiwan will be elaborated as well. The researcher has interviewed with Mr. Wang and his students since the end of 2001 and filed the conversation with 40 audio types (1 hour per type). Then he scanned and documented Wang’s seals which are over 2,000 pieces as a database and collected the writings of Wang since he moved to Taiwan in order to understand Wang’s opinion of seal cutting. The conclusion of this research is as below: 1. The development of Wang’s seal cutting was inspired by Kong-Cai He and delved by himself intensively after his migration to Taiwan. He learned form the seal cutters of late Chin Dynasty and he was digging into the traditional style. Wang believes in learning from the tradition and making adjustment form the concurrent. He trends to learn from the traditional art but leaves the formality behind. 2. The progress of Wang’s style contains 4 periods of time: a) Before the age of 30, it’s the imitation period. b) From the age of 30 to 40, Wang learned from many different styles of seal cutter. It’s the period learned from the tradition. c) From the age of 40 to 60, Wang’s main creation is ancient style seals. It’s the period of translation. d) After the age of 60, the fine but strong lines of his seals are similar to the style of Chin Dynasty but with his own. It’s the mature period. 3. Wang established an organization of seal when he was 35 years old and he began to teach the art of seal in both public and private organizations. He also published magazines and books about seal cutting and guided graduate students on their thesis. Wang popularize the art of seal cutting with plan and last for a long period of time. 4. Pei-Yueh Wang is not just an artist of seal cutting with his unique style but also a collector of seals and an educationist who takes the responsibility of popularization of the seal cutting art as his own. 黃冬富 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 377 zh-TW
