The purpose of this paper is to design an optic dynamic measuring system for estimating dynamic force history and building a regression design curve with reference for designing a pneumatic power gun system.
In this research, the non-contact optics measurement system comprises of optics lighting, photograph technique, vision-based analysis and electrical control skill. All of them are constructed to capture and locate the high speed flying markers on the striker acted by the pneumatic power gun system.
The marker is frozen at several different positions by means of a high speed strobe light system. The relationship of displacement and time for the projectile striker is hence built by a vision-based measurement system, and can further compute the dynamic force history.
In the experiment, the dynamic force of the pneumatic power gun system is predicted at the ranges from 3 to 5.5 kg/cm2 pressure to develop the regression relationship curve between the power dissipation rate and pressure source.
The developed relationship curve is then tested at 6 kg/cm2 pressure and shows a deviation of 0.5866%. The maximum variations of the tests are less than 10﹪in all the experiments. Therefore, the regression curve can be built and approved to apply in the practical design for a power gun system.
