Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立台北護理學院 === 長期照護研究所 === 92 === By means of follow-up tracing, the present study is to look into the retired servicemen (hereinafter referred to as veterans) regarding the quality of their health life, health utility, health and medical care two years before their death in comparison with the veterans still alive. The study is intended to make sure of the contents and subjects they are most desperately in need of care, support and concern before their death. The findings so yielded will function as the grounds in the future efforts to better their lifestyle, and function as the referential grounds for the follow-up researchers on the veteran related issues. The study picked up 692 veterans out of five veteran houses in Taipei area, with two-year follow-up tracing, with data collected in three efforts to compare the fundamental particulars, health conditions, health related life habits or behaviors, health utility, quality of life or the mortality of veterans under such factors. Accordingly, the study tried to locate the death related forecast factors. The findings yielded out of the study indicate that if the study samples were classified into two categories based on the results of death to observe the veterans of the death group and living group. Their demographic particulars show no significant differences, suggesting that in the follow-up tracing process, the veterans in the veteran houses show no centralized death in any attributes. The study findings also indicate that in the death group, the veterans in the death group shows ratio of brain stroke significantly higher their counterparts in the living group. They were in a higher ratio of a fall over the past three months as well. Meanwhile, veterans in the death group are in relatively lower ratio of regular recreation than the living group. That indicates that brain stroke, lack of recreation and fall form the key dangerous factors leading to veterans’ death. Among them, brain stroke is the most important factor to forecast the death, followed by lack of regular recreation, and then a fall. Veterans in the veterans’ houses showed a significant change in the quality of like before death. Overall, the quality of their life drops. The mental demand troubles those veterans less than physical factors. At the time closer to death, the trouble incurred by physical factors becomes more significant. To veterans dwelling in the veterans’ houses, provision of adequate medical care and care resources to help ease up the burden and trouble incurred by the physical factors will be very much important in assuring a better quality of life in the last moment of their life. Meanwhile, adequate mental counseling mechanism will help those veterans ease up their stress incurred by inability in move and their discouraging exteriority. The present study notices as well that to the veterans in the veterans’ houses, those the veteran houses provided adequate care of their life, they do feel hard-up financially to meet their actual needs.
