It provides voice, image and video, data services for high-speed backbone network. Therefore, the rapid developing of Internet also causes a great quantity deploying of ATM networks. In public ATM network bulk information is aggregated into a pipe of ATM stream. It includes confidential, secret information that couldn’t be known to a third party. So the security for ATM is become more and more important. The ATM Forum had established ATM security framework. It defines series security specifications on ATM user plane and control plane. It provided the infrastructure for transmission security messages between sender and receiver. We discussed the performance issues on secret encryption modes applied to different AAL types.
