The purpose of this study was to investigate the most appropriate teaching model for teachers to construct instructional modules to cultivate pupils’ competency of design and production in science courses. As a teacher and a researcher, I took the curricular action by the assistance from one science expert elementary teacher, two professors and two graduate students who were majored in science education. In addition to the spirally established models, I also put it in practice to six real classrooms. Data were collected by pupils’ products, statements for products, checklists, and interview transcripts from students. The results of this study were (1)there were four runs to establish the final instructional model for instructing the literacy of design and production;(2)there were four complete instructional modules: alternative pencils, power cars, rubber band power car and anemometer;(3)there was feedbacks from students’ creative products as well as their explanation sheets, and researcher’s reflection journals. This study would provide science teachers and science curricular designers the referent procedures to develop the instructional modules for elementary students in order to elevate the ability of design and production.
