In the only professional sports league in Taiwan─CPBL, although there has never been strike yet, the relationship between club owners and players has been very tense several times due to salary issues. The purpose of this study is to find out the most important factors in determining the players’ salary in CPBL in order to provide useful information for relative party in the future.
I estimate the stepwise regressions for the pitchers and fielders respectively. The results show that the main factors in determining the pitchers’ and fielders’ salaries are wins and tenure respectively. Besides, last year salaries are a major consideration for both kinds of players. Finally, other variable including the players’ roles、team performance and the prosperity of the entire market are also important.
