There are two main purposes. The first is preservation of Hakka related materials, and the second is preservation of Hakka cultural inheritance, that is to help Hakka people establish self-confidence and value their own language and culture. The study consists of five chapters. Chapter one is introduction. Chapter two is geographic distribution of Lui Tui Hakka immigrants, their relationships with Ching imperial court, Hoklo and Hakka. Chapter three is the formation of Lui Tui tribes and social organization. Chapter four is how Lui Tui folk customs, culture, art and language can be applied to the teaching of Social Studies. Chapter five is conclusion. For the purpose of the study, the literature review which we can use now was conducted. The author made comparisons, integrations and conclusions with limited information obtained from Lui Tui related publications issued by Zhong Ren-Shou, Luo Xiang-Llin, Zeng Xui-Gi, and Zeng Cai-Jin, a member of Lui Tui cultural and educational foundation. These included “Study of Lui Tui Hakka”, “Collections of Lui Tui Hakka Academic Seminar”, “Lui Tui Magazine”, and “Lui Tui Past and Present”. Secondly, the field surveys which we proceed with observation interview and survey in the real life were conducted. The author participated in festival activities of Lui-Tui areas, interviewed local elderly persons, experts, visited shrines, and investigated family books, ancestral tablets, inscriptions, etc. Therefore, we can understand people,s thoughts and opinions. To sum up the results of the study, the accomplishments of Lui-Tui Hakka Tribes in Kaohsiung and Pingtung can be applied to the teaching of social studies. This can educate people who lives in the tribes to exalt the spirit of diligence, teamwork, righteousness and courageousness in their ancestry. It also can promote ethnic assimilation and preserve Hakka customs and language through the teaching of social studies. However, the opinions of the general public in these tribes indicates that both strengths and weaknesses in terms of ethnic solidarity, the preservation of Hakka customs and language in activities such as political election, Lui-Tui Athletic Competition. Based on the aforesaid findings, the author proposes directions for future developments in terms of political, economic, social and cultural aspects and the preservation of the Hakka language for readers’ reference.
