You-may Yen is one of the frontier of the children literature in Taiwan. She devoted her self into the world of Children literature since 1952. Yen is good at writing fairytale, story for children, prose for children, and poetry for children, songs for children, and also doing the works about translation the world famous children literature from the West into Chinese. Her works, both in quality and quantity, are wealth while for researcher for further study.
This essay is mainly focusing on the You-may Yen’s works of fairytale. The topics of each Chapter are:
Chapter One: Instruction, showing the motive of research and goals, textbook.
Chapter Two: You-may Yen and Fairytales--There are there parts of this chapter─the life of Yen, her idea of writing fairytales, and the booklists of Yen’s works of fairytale stories. This chapter will discuss her point of view about fairytales and her own idea about her writing fairytale stories. The reason of this chapter is to know more and understanding better about Yen’s center idea of writing story.
Chapter Three: Focusing on Yen’s works of fairytales─there are four main ideas for studying Yen’s fairytales. They are ‘love and caring’, ‘the wisdom of life’, ‘education of life’, ‘The building of knowledge’. By these four parts, means to know deeper about the spirit in Yen’s fairytale stories.
Chapter Four: This chapter is about how Yen develop the plots and setting in her fairy stories. This chapter is focusing on the skill of developing plots of storyline and the structure of Yen’s stories. There are three aspects of the structure of Yen’s stories: ‘the managing of the reality’, ‘the design of supernatural’, the mixture of the reality and supernatural.’
Chapter Five: Mainly trying to study the characters in her fairytale stories. There are three classes of Yen’s fairytale stories: ‘the characters of animating human’, ‘the characters of normal people,’ and ‘the characters of superman’. In part of this chapter, will discussing the priceless material items in Yen’s fairytales, her skill of shaping character in stories.
Chapter Six: Conclusion─showing the result of this essay, describing the special parts of Yen’s fairy stories, her devotions and her great succeed in the history of the children literature.
